With each passing year the statistics continue to rise. The numbers are going up for obesity and we need to look at the facts. As a society we are eating more and moving less. Kids are staying inside and playing video games more than they are playing outside. On top of the lack of activity we have a fast food restaurant at most intersections with appealing value menus filled with saturated fats. We are a nation that is always in a hurry with little time to take care of our bodies and in turn put unhealthy foods that have been processed for consumption.
While we have little time and are looking for convenience we also want to get rid of the extra pounds we have added and we want to get rid of them RIGHT NOW! The truth is we want a quick fix diet, a pill in a bottle, an energy drink that burns calories, and all the other products out there that give us a sense of false hope. I hate to be the one to tell you this but but you are not going to get long lasting results this way. We have to realize that if we want to lose weight and keep it off we must commit to cleaner eating and regular exercise. For those of you already doing this…way to go! You are already ahead of over half the nation. There are so many things you can start doing today that can help you start your healthy lifestyle make over. Why would you work hard at getting the weight off and feeling better for a short time just to go back to old habits and regain the weight you lost? I believe you don’t want to. I believe you want to keep the weight off and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
This isn’t something that is going to happen overnight. The first thing you must do is commit to yourself. Start by changing a few small bad habits and add a few good habits. For example, reduce the amount of junk and processed foods you eat and opt for a healthy snack like fruit. Instead of looking for the nearest parking spot park a little further to get some extra exercise. These are just a couple of things you can do to change. If you want to start jogging set small goals that lead up to a marathon. If you aren’t looking for the big race then just do it for yourself. Run a quarter mile and a little distance over time. Not only will you start feeling better but it will lead to doing other things that are healthy for you. Like drinking more water throughout the day, grabbing an apple instead of a bag of chips, heck you might even start working out at a gym. The truth is no one is going to do this for you. Stop taking care of everybody else and have a little ‘me time’. Trust me, you will thank yourself for it in the long run. Until next time set some small goals and practice them often.
